Diodes, Inc. Announces Two Ultra-Low Dropout Regulators for Low Power Portable Applications

Oct 11, 2007

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 2007--Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq:DIOD), a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete and analog semiconductor markets, today announced the release of two new Ultra-Low Dropout (ULDO) regulators, the AP7165 and AP7167. These devices are Diodes' first ULDO regulators to support servers, notebook computers, network cards, FPGA/DSP power, and many other portable or battery powered electronic devices.

The AP7165 and AP7167 feature a very low supply current, typically 125 A from zero to maximum load, making it well-suited to support a wide range of low power applications. The AP7165 drives a load current of 0.6A, while the AP7167 drives 1.2A, providing designers flexibility in selecting the best device to meet their application requirements. Both devices feature a Power OK Output (POK), which can be used for either power sequencing control when managing multiple supplies or monitoring output voltages in critical systems. Both products exhibit excellent characteristics in dropout voltage and supply current, making them ideal for a broad range of low to medium power applications.

"The introduction of our ULDO regulators represents the first in a family of new power management devices that we will be releasing to target the portable and battery powered electronic device segments," said Mark King, Senior VP Sales and Marketing of Diodes, Inc. "These devices extend our analog power solutions into this fast-growing market and complement the strong position that we currently have in subminiature discrete semiconductors."

The AP7165 and AP7167 devices are available in an ultra-thin DFN package with a maximum height of 0.6mm that makes it suitable for integration into thin and compact applications where space and height are at a premium. The AP7165 and AP7167 include additional features such as an adjustable output with a range from 0.8V to 5V, current limit, short circuit protection, thermal shutdown, fast transient response and high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR). These new devices are available in a 10-pin DFN3030-10 package and are fully RoHS compliant, including Green Molding compound. Both support an industrial temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C.
