Diodes, Inc. Introduces Six High-Speed Schottky and Switching Diodes in an Ultra-Small SOD-523 Package; Also Introduces New 6-Lead SOT-563 Array Package for Future Product Lines

Sep 9, 2003

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2003--Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq:DIOD), a leading manufacturer and supplier of high quality discrete semiconductor products, serving the communications, computer, industrial, consumer electronics and automotive markets, today announced the release of six new high-speed Schottky and switching diodes in an ultra-miniature SOD-523 package. These new space-saving devices are ideal for end-user products such as cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, Wi-Fi computer cards, pagers and hand-held equipment, where board space is at an extreme premium.

Schottky Diodes SDM03U40, SDM10U45, SDM20U30, SDM20U40 and switching diodes 1N4148WT and 1N4448HWT are the first products to be introduced in this new package. The devices are being offered in one of the industry's smallest discrete semiconductor packages and mark a continuation of Diodes' portfolio expansion specifically addressing the need to shrink the PCB for today's compact end-user products.

These popular industry parts, previously available in the larger SOD-323 and SOD-123 packages, are now available in the SOD-523 with a package power dissipation maximum of 150mW and no degradation in electrical performance. The new smaller package occupies less than one-quarter of the board space of the SOD-123 and its low profile is less than half that of the SOD-123.

In the future, the Company plans to continue the migration of key Schottky and switching diodes as well as the new high precision DDZ zener diode lines from larger packages to the SOD-523.

Commenting on the product introduction, Mark King, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Diodes, Inc., said, "We're delighted to announce this new product line which further demonstrates Diodes' commitment to the development of innovative designs that offer our customers real improvements in cost, performance, and size. Working closely with our customer base gives us insight into their needs so we can develop the targeted solutions they require. I believe that this is a major reason that market acceptance for our new product lines is proving exceptionally strong."

Also Introducing The New 6-lead SOT-563 Array Package

In conjunction with the new SOD-523, Diodes, Inc. is also introducing the new 6-lead SOT-563 array package. The first products to be offered in this package are Diodes' new low resistance (R1) pre-biased transistors and will be followed by the entire line-up of pre-biased transistors, the new line of DDZ zener diodes and other devices from Diodes Inc.'s broad product portfolio including highly flexible application specific arrays.

In keeping with the industry move to lead-free finishes for package leads and terminals, the SOD-523 and SOT-563 come with lead-free plated terminals of matte tin.
