Diodes Incorporated Announces High Efficiency Schottky Barrier Rectifiers in Compact PowerDI5 Package; PDS1040 and PDS1040CTL Offer Unparalleled Efficiency and Performance

Feb 2, 2005
    WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2005--

Release of four additional PowerDI(TM)5 Schottky barrier
                   rectifiers fills out product line

Diodes Incorporated, (Nasdaq:DIOD) a leading manufacturer and supplier of high quality discrete semiconductors, today announced the release of two new Schottky barrier rectifiers that offer unparalleled efficiency and performance. These performance products combine lower forward voltage drop with exceptionally low reverse leakage current, resulting in the highest efficiency rectifiers of their type currently available. Packaged in Diodes' thermally efficient low-profile patent-pending PowerDI(TM)5 package, these devices consume only a fraction of the PC board space occupied by competing packages.

"This family of high-efficiency Schottky rectifiers rounds out our portfolio of performance devices employing Diodes' breakthrough PowerDI(TM)5 package, and builds on the momentum that the recent introduction of the 100V and 200V devices generated," said Diodes' President and CEO, C.H. Chen. "Diodes' customer-driven R&D program continues to deliver products that extend the envelope of discrete device performance, while simultaneously consuming less space and power, so as to meet the demands of our global customer base."

The PDS1040 is up to 67% more efficient than competitive packages, and PDS1040CTL up to 79% more efficient, for 50% duty cycle switch-mode operation at an ambient temperature of 125 degrees C, as is commonly found in switch-mode power applications. The switch-mode power supply (SMPS) market is so competitive that even a fraction of a percent improvement in overall final product efficiency is coveted and can make-or-break an SMPS product's marketability.

These silicon-chip level features are enhanced by the benefits of Diodes' patent-pending PowerDI(TM)5 package. With a footprint of only 23.8mm2 and a profile of only 1.1mm, the PowerDI(TM)5 package offers a 65% reduction in PCB real estate as compared to the DPAK package or an 87% reduction as compared to the D2PAK package, making them ideal for space and height limited applications.

Diodes, Inc. is simultaneously releasing four other PowerDI(TM)5 products. The PDS835L and PDS1040L are low forward voltage drop Schottky barrier rectifiers, specifically designed to provide exceptional efficiency in high duty cycle and heavy load applications. The PDS3100 and PDS5100 Schottky barrier rectifiers are ideally suited for high voltage applications.

"While the previously introduced 100V and 200V devices answered the needs of a specific market, our expanded range of Schottky barrier rectifiers offers performance advantages for a wide range of demanding end-equipment applications in the automotive, computing, telecommunications and industrial markets," commented Mark King, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Based on the dramatic improvements in size, performance and efficiency, we expect to see strong demand for these devices in power supplies, servers, DC-DC converters, and broad-based automotive applications."

Diodes, Inc. has developed the entire PowerDI(TM)5 product family maintaining the Company's commitment to manufacturing environmentally-conscious products. Featuring "green" Antimony and Bromine-free mold compound and Pb-Free 100% matte Tin plating, these products are RoHS compliant.
