Diodes Incorporated Announces Next Generation DBS Product Family

Feb 4, 2010
LNB controllers reduce power and PCB size and increase reliability

DALLAS, Feb 04, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq:DIOD), a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete and analog semiconductor markets, announced the introduction of a new family of low noise block (LNB) controllers for direct broadcast satellite (DBS) applications. In smaller packaging and operating at lower voltages and higher levels of accuracy than previous generations, six new devices aim to increase efficiency and the reliability of LNB designs while reducing overall size.

These next generation controllers have proven in some cases to use less than 1% of total LNB current; their low supply voltage operation ensures a significant efficiency improvement when used with DC-DC converters. Packaging is now ultra thin QFN style, enabling a reduction in PCB size and off-board height requirement.

Offering more accurate and flexible control and internal filtering, the new controllers completely eliminate false switching and support a wider range of set-top box designs and specifications. The six controllers have been designed to exceed the latest DBS broadcast specifications.

The ZNBG3118 provides bias control and protection for up 3 GaAs and HEMT FET low noise amplifiers. This controller integrates an accurate voltage detector for LNB polarization channel selection and an advanced tone detector for local oscillator selection for band switching.

ZABG4002 and ZABG6002 are low power fixed bias controllers for 4 and 6 stage FET low noise amplifiers, respectively, providing each FET with an independent protected negative gate voltage and positive drain voltage with user programmable drain current selectable from 0 to 15mA.

Offering a choice of high and standard accuracy polarization voltage detection are the ZLNB2015 and ZLNB2016 advanced DBS dual voltage and tone detectors. Optimized for low supply current and wide operating voltage, both devices also offer excellent interference rejection while keeping application cost down.

Finally, the ZLNB254 is a dual channel DiSEqC(TM) interface for LNBs and satellite distribution systems. This IC provides two highly accurate DiSEqC detectors, which converts the DiSEqC(TM) signals into logic level representations enabling simple and reliable processor monitoring.
