Diodes Incorporated Targets Chargers for Cell Phones and Portable Devices with Highly Efficient Synchronous Rectification Controller

Jan 30, 2015

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2015-- Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD), a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete, logic and analog semiconductor markets, today introduced the APR343 synchronous rectification controller. This device addresses the need for a highly integrated, efficient and cost-effective solution for cell phone and similar portable electronic device chargers.

The APR343 integrates a secondary-side MOSFET driver with an output voltage detection function to support a primary-side control system. This circuit configuration allows for synchronous rectification in discontinuous conduction mode by sensing the MOSFET drain-to-source voltage and providing a periodic signal to drive the MOSFET when the output voltage is lower than a certain threshold. By responding quickly to the secondary-side voltage, the APR343 can improve the transient response of the primary-side control system and reduce the power dissipation of the secondary-side rectifier.

The APR343 features over-voltage protection and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) functionality as well as a design that minimizes external components. Packaged in the space-saving SOT25, the APR343 provides a high-performance rectification solution to meets the increasingly demanding power converter requirements for the consumer and home appliance markets.
