Diodes Incorporated Announces a Bias, Control and Power Management IC that Removes Cost and Complexity From LNB Design

Jan 26, 2010

DALLAS, Jan 26, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD), a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete and analog semiconductor markets, today announced a highly integrated bias, control and power management IC for single band satellite low noise blocks (LNB). Helping to reduce discrete component count and PCB size while increasing performance and reliability, the ZXNB4204 handles FET and mixer biasing, channel detection and control, and offers a stable power supply for added LNB functionality.

Packaged in the 3mm x 3mm, 16-pin QFN package, the Diodes LNB controller requires the support of only three external components, or just two if using an active mixer.

The chip provides the biasing for up to four GaAs or HEMT FETs, enabling very stable control of three low noise amplifier stages and the active mixer. Enhancing LNB performance over all operating conditions and reducing production trimming requirements, the ZXNB4204 also protects the sensitive low noise amplifier stage against turn-on spikes and other fault conditions.

Using an accurate on-board voltage detector to detect and switch between horizontal and vertical linear or left and right circular polarization signals, the chip meets all global single band LNB specifications. By rejecting any unwanted signals caused by transients and other effects, the ZXNB4204 increases STB reliability by completely eliminating false switching.

A voltage regulator is also included in the ZXNB4204 both to power internal circuits and to supply additional LNB components such as the IF gain stages and local oscillator. The integration of such power management functionality enables the LNB controller to protect against overload, over temperature and installation errors.
