Diodes Incorporated Introduces 1-Watt Zener and 2-Ampere Schottky Devices Using Innovative PowerDI123 Packaging

Mar 16, 2005
    WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 2005--

High Performance 1-Watt Zener Line Occupies up to 50% Less Board
Space; 2-Amp Schottky Series Expands PowerDI(TM)123 Product Line

Diodes Incorporated, (Nasdaq:DIOD) a leading manufacturer and supplier of high quality discrete semiconductors, today announced a product line expansion of using the Company's proprietary PowerDI(TM)123 Compact Power Package to include a series of 1-Watt Zener devices and a series of 2-Ampere Schottky devices.

"These two new products illustrate the flexibility and performance improvements achievable with our breakthrough PowerDI(TM)123 Compact Power Package," said C.H. Chen, President and CEO of Diodes, Inc. "It represents another step forward in our efforts to increase the performance and efficiency of the solutions we provide our customers and position Diodes as an innovation leader in the discrete category."

"The compact and robust design of our 1-Watt Zener is well suited to automotive applications where the complexity of electronics becomes greater with each model year, power surges are common, and high reliability in harsh environments is a requirement," said Mark King, Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Diodes, Inc. "We also anticipate strong interest in this series for a wide variety of applications in consumer electronics such as cell phones, digital cameras, hand held video games and notebook computers."

The PowerDI(TM)123 Compact Power Package features a footprint of only 6.75 square mms and a low-profile maximum height of 1mm. This reduction in PCB footprint, combined with superior power density, provides significant design advantages for a wide variety of end-applications in consumer electronics, mobile computing and automotive. DFLZ series Zeners are designed to dissipate up to 1-Watt under steady state conditions, a performance typically attainable only from much larger packages.

The 1-Watt Zener will initially be offered in a range of voltages from 5.1V through 39V, which includes the most popular voltages in the industry. The new device enables designers to cut PCB real estate by more than half, while achieving the same power dissipation as industry standard SMA packages. The device employs Diodes' proprietary ion implantation wafer process and a broad internal clip design to increase surge-handling capability. Diodes, Inc. plans to expand the series below 5.1V in the near future.

In addition, Diodes is announcing the expansion of its PowerDI(TM)123 product offering to include a comprehensive selection of 2-Ampere, low-voltage Schottky rectifiers. Ideally suited to address the growing demands of Distributed Power Architecture in PC motherboard, digital still camera (DSC), and a variety of other portable consumer electronics applications, the compact size and outstanding output current capabilities of this new series enables the increase in circuit density needed for the development of our customer's next generation consumer products. "By combining Diodes' world class Schottky wafer and PowerDI(TM)123 power package, we have filled a gap that exists in the market between low-current, small-outline devices and higher power packages. This series offers double the current density of our 1-Ampere line introduced last year and demonstrates Diodes' rapid development cycle and determination to provide our customers with optimal design solutions," concluded Mr. King.
