Dual Buck Converter from Diodes Incorporated Boosts Modem Efficiency

Oct 28, 2014

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 2014-- Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD), a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete, logic and analog semiconductor markets, today introduced the PAM2322AGEAR. By providing a pair of high-efficiency PWM step-down DC/DC converters in a tiny 2.5mm x 2mm package, this device is tailored to meet the needs of wireless and DSL modem applications. Its innovative pulse-skipping mode enables a reduction in quiescent current under light load operation, helping to maximize portable device battery life.

Further power savings are achieved by the converters’ 100% duty cycle, allowing systems to operate even at the lowest voltage supply. With an input voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V, the 17-pad W-FLGA2050 packaged converters will support the use of single Li+ / Li polymer cells, multiple alkaline/NiMH cells, USB power supplies and many other standard power sources.

The device offers a 1A, 1.8V fixed voltage output and a 2A, adjustable (0.9V to VIN) voltage output, each with an independent active-high channel enable pin. Integration of an internal power switch and synchronous rectifier on each output, combined with a high operating frequency of 1.2MHz means PAM2322AGEAR also minimizes the size and quantity of external components that are required.

A complete suite of protection features is included in the package, consisting of under-voltage lockout, soft-start, thermal shutdown and heat-reducing, hiccup mode short-circuit protection. Further information is available at www.diodes.com.
